چکیده

The evaluation of riverbank stability often represents an underrated problem in engineering practice, but is also a topical geotechnical research issue. In fact, it certainly true that soil water content and pore pressure distributions the materials vary with time, due to changeable effects hydrometric climatic boundary conditions, strongly influencing bank conditions. Nonetheless, assessment hydraulic mechanical behavior embankments are currently performed under simplified hypothesis steady-state seepage, generally neglecting unsaturated related issues. this paper, comprehensive procedure for properly defining key aspects presented and, particular, characterization partially saturated conditions suitably compacted mixture sand finer material, typical flood main river Po tributaries (Italy), reported. laboratory results have then been considered modelling embankment performance transient seepage following set possible peaks. outcome present contribution may provide meaningful insights, practitioners researchers, risk embankments.

Bone remodeling regulation under unloading conditions: Numerical investigations

The present paper addresses the following question: can a simple regulatory bone remodeling model predict effects of unloading conditions on the trabecular bone morphology? In an attempt to answer this question, rat tail-suspension was chosen as a model that mimics the microgravity environment. Over 23 days, histomorphometric analysis was carried out on cross-sections of tibias of the suspended...

A Soil-Water Coupled Analysis of the Deformation of an Unsaturated River Embankment due to Seepage Flow and Overflow

In recent years, many disasters due to floods have occurred around the world. In some cases, the level of river water exceeded the estimated high-water level. It is necessary, therefore, to reconsider the evaluation method for river dike embankments during floods for the safety of the embankments. In this study, a deformation analysis is proposed that can simultaneously consider the unsaturated...

Numerical and Experimental Investigations for Design of a High Performance Micro-hydro-kinetic Turbine

Design and manufacturing of a high performance micro-hydro-kinetic turbine is discussed in the present paper. The main goal is manufacturing an equipped experimental model of hydro-kinetic turbine with highest energy absorption from water current. A multi-shape ducted turbine comprised of a multi-part diffuser was manufactured that can be converted to many experimental models for studying vario...

A comparative Analysis of Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Composite Tubes under Axial and Lateral Loading

Quasi-static tests are performed in order to determine the crash behavior of composite tubes. The specimens are made from woven fiber carbon/epoxy. The crash experiments show that the tubes crushed in a progressive manner from one end to the other of the tubes while delamination was taking place between the layers. In the simulation works described in this paper the ANSYS explicit finite elemen...

Numerical Investigations on the Transient Performance of a Centrifugal Pump

Centrifugal pumps are an integral part of plants used in process industries. The flow structure within a centrifugal pump is very complex due to the interaction between the rotating impeller and the geometric features around it. In the present study, numerical investigations on a centrifugal pump have been carried out using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based solver. This study employs f...
